Boiler replacement done properly

Boiler installation means removing your old boiler and fitting a new, efficient one, usually a combi, system or regular boiler, along with any pipework, flue and controls it needs. DPB is Gas Safe registered (No. 603724) and an approved installer for Ideal and Worcester boilers.

It's for homeowners and landlords across Wigan, Leigh, Chorley, Warrington, Manchester and the surrounding area whose boiler is old, unreliable, expensive to run or no longer safe to repair.

Most people replace their boiler when it keeps breaking down, when parts become hard to get, when energy bills creep up, or when an engineer has advised it's reached the end of its life. Planning a replacement before it fails completely saves you a cold, rushed decision.

Professional installation matters because gas work is legally restricted to Gas Safe registered engineers, and because a boiler that's the wrong size or poorly set up will never run efficiently, however good the brand.

The real cost of hanging on to an old boiler

An ageing boiler costs you in bills, repairs and, eventually, a breakdown at the worst time.

Breakdowns in cold weather

Old boilers tend to fail when they're working hardest, leaving you without heating or hot water.

Higher running costs

Older boilers are less efficient, so more of what you pay for gas is wasted.

Safety risks

Faulty or poorly maintained gas appliances can be dangerous. Gas work must only be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Common mistakes we see

  • Choosing a boiler on price alone without checking it suits the size of the home and hot water demand.
  • Using an installer who isn't Gas Safe registered.
  • Skipping servicing, which can affect manufacturer warranty cover.
  • Fitting a new boiler to a dirty system without addressing the existing pipework and radiators.

Choosing the right boiler for your home

The best boiler is the one that matches your home, your hot water use and your existing system.

Combi boilers

Combi boilers heat water on demand and need no hot water cylinder or loft tanks. They suit most smaller and medium-sized homes.

System boilers

System boilers work with a hot water cylinder and suit homes with more than one bathroom or higher hot water demand.

Regular (heat-only) boilers

Regular boilers work with a cylinder and loft tanks, often in older homes. Sometimes it makes sense to keep this setup; sometimes converting is better.

Ideal and Worcester

As an approved installer for both brands, DPB can recommend the model that suits your home.

Controls and thermostats

Modern controls help you heat your home only when you need it, which can reduce running costs.

Homes and landlords

We install boilers for homeowners and landlords. For commercial premises, call Danny to discuss your requirements.

Replacing your boiler: what to consider

Signs it's time for a new boiler

Frequent breakdowns, rising repair bills, parts that are hard to find, a yellow or flickering flame, or an engineer advising the boiler is near the end of its life are all reasons to start planning a replacement, rather than waiting for it to fail.

Sizing matters

A boiler that's too small struggles to heat the house or deliver hot water. One that's too big costs more to buy and can run less efficiently. Danny looks at your home, the number of bathrooms and how you use hot water before recommending a model.

Your existing system

If your radiators and pipework are full of sludge, a new boiler won't perform at its best. Danny will check the condition of your system and advise if anything needs attention alongside the installation.

Boiler location and flue

Many replacements go in the same place as the old boiler. Moving it, for example, out of a kitchen cupboard into a loft or utility room, is often possible, but depends on pipework and flue routes.

Look after it from day one

Annual servicing helps keep your new boiler safe and efficient, and many manufacturer warranties depend on it. DPB offers a full strip-down service for £120–£180 including VAT.

Combining with a bathroom

If you're renovating a bathroom, it can make sense to plan a boiler change at the same time, for example if you're adding a second shower that needs more hot water.

What happens on installation day

The old boiler is isolated and removed, the new boiler is mounted and connected, the flue is fitted and any pipework changes are made. The system is then filled, checked for leaks, commissioned and tested. Before leaving, you'll be shown how to use your new controls and what to do if the pressure drops.

Why choose an approved installer

Being an approved installer for Ideal and Worcester means DPB is recognised by those manufacturers to fit their boilers. Combined with Gas Safe registration (No. 603724), it means your boiler is fitted by someone qualified and familiar with the products.

Planning ahead

If your current boiler is old or unreliable, getting a quote now lets you choose a model and date that suits you, rather than making a rushed decision when it breaks down in winter.
