Heating systems and radiators

This service covers central heating systems and radiators, replacing old or leaking radiators, adding radiators to cold rooms, upgrading to modern or designer radiators, moving radiators during renovations, and installing heated towel rails in bathrooms.

It's for homeowners whose rooms never get properly warm, whose radiators are rusting or leaking, or who are renovating and want the heating to match the new layout.

Common signs you need work are radiators that stay cold at the bottom or top, rooms that never reach temperature, leaking valves, and old radiators that look tired in a newly decorated room.

Professional installation matters because the whole system works together. Radiators need to be sized for the room and the system balanced, or some rooms will always be colder than others.

What happens when heating problems are ignored

Heating faults waste money quietly every day.

Cold rooms and higher bills

Poorly performing radiators make the boiler work harder to heat your home.

Leaks and damage

Corroded radiators and valves can leak onto floors and carpets.

Strain on the boiler

A struggling system can put extra demand on your boiler.

Common mistakes we see

  • Fitting radiators that are too small for the room.
  • Adding radiators without checking the system can cope.
  • Not balancing the system after changes.
  • Ignoring small leaks from valves.

Improving your heating: a practical guide

Find the real cause of cold rooms

A cold room can be caused by an undersized radiator, trapped air, sludge in the system, a faulty valve or an unbalanced system. Fixing the right cause is cheaper than guessing, which is why Danny looks at the whole system first.

Choosing the right radiator size

Radiators should be sized for the room, taking into account its size, windows and how well it holds heat. A radiator that looks right but is too small will never keep the room comfortable.

Where to put radiators

Traditionally radiators sit under windows, but modern layouts, furniture and renovations sometimes call for different positions. Vertical radiators can use otherwise wasted wall space.

Room-by-room control

Thermostatic radiator valves let you keep bedrooms cooler and living rooms warmer. Used with good boiler controls, they help you heat only what you need.

Bathroom heating

Heated towel rails keep bathrooms warm and help prevent damp. They can be fitted on their own or as part of a new bathroom.

System health

Over time, systems can build up sludge that reduces performance and puts strain on the boiler. If radiators are cold at the bottom or the system is noisy, it's worth having it looked at.

Planning with renovations

If you're renovating a room, it's the ideal time to move or upgrade radiators, as walls and floors are already open.

Signs your heating needs attention

Radiators that take a long time to warm up, rooms that never reach temperature, valves that weep, banging or gurgling pipes and a boiler that keeps losing pressure are all signs worth acting on. Small heating faults left alone tend to cost more over time, both in energy and in repairs.

Landlords and rental properties

Tenants expect warm, working heating. Replacing tired radiators and faulty valves between lets avoids complaints and mid-tenancy call-outs.

Working alongside a bathroom renovation

Bathroom renovations are a good time to replace a tired radiator with a heated towel rail or move the radiator to a better wall. Because DPB fits the bathroom too, the heating is planned as part of the same job rather than as an afterthought.

What happens during installation

The system is drained down where needed, old radiators removed and new ones fitted with new valves. Pipework is adjusted if the radiator size or position changes. The system is then refilled, bled, checked for leaks and balanced so each room heats evenly.

Choosing radiator styles

Standard panel radiators are efficient and affordable. Column, vertical and designer radiators can add a feature to a room. The right choice depends on wall space, heat needed and the look you want.

Central Heating & Radiators: common questions

How much does it cost to replace a radiator?

It depends on the radiator type and size and any pipework changes. You'll get a free quote.

Why is my radiator cold at the top?

It's often trapped air. If bleeding doesn't fix it or it keeps happening, call Danny.

Why is my radiator cold at the bottom?

This can be caused by sludge build-up in the system. Danny can assess and advise.

Can you add a radiator to a cold room?

Usually, yes. Danny will check your system can support it.

Can you fit a heated towel rail?

Yes, on its own or as part of a bathroom installation.

What guarantee do you give?

Plumbing and heating work carries a 2-year workmanship guarantee. Terms and conditions apply to parts or products supplied by the customer.

Are quotes free?

Yes. Quotes are free and there is no obligation.

Do you accept call-outs?

We don't run a 24/7 service. If you have a problem that can't wait, ring Danny on 07951 583606, if he's available, he'll come out.

Which areas do you cover?

We work across Wigan, Manchester, Preston, Leigh, Astley, Warrington, Worsley, Chorley, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Standish, Hindley and Atherton. If you're just outside those areas, ring Danny and ask.

Can you replace a radiator with a vertical one?

Usually, yes. The pipework is adapted to suit the new position, and the radiator is sized to heat the room.

Do I need a new boiler for new radiators?

Not usually. Danny will check that your boiler and system can support any changes.

Can you fix a radiator that leaks from the valve?

Yes. Weeping valves are a common repair. Depending on the cause, the valve may need repacking, tightening or replacing, and the system is checked for leaks afterwards.

How long does it take to replace a radiator?

A like-for-like swap is usually quick. Changing size or position takes longer. Danny will give you a timescale with your quote.
